The Silver Lining (of the pandemic)

I know it’s hard for many of us to think about given the fact that we are in the middle of the crisis, but I believe there truly is a silver lining that we can focus on instead of the stress and anxiety. As an organization that focuses on workforce engagement and culture, I believe that now is the time leaders should be doubling down on their people. Now is the time that we can show compassion, empathy, and support knowing that each of us is handling the ever-changing situation differently.

We are being forced to re-evaluate our businesses and create flexibility to get the work done when previously we didn’t think there was any flexibility.  We are being forced to evolve in our thinking in remote work, which is something that many businesses have been struggling with for years.

For all leaders, I believe that in this time of chaos around us is a great time to take a clarity break, take the opportunity to slow down and think about your business and let the strategic ideas flow. Not only will it distract you for a bit, but it is also good for our brains to get a rest from the stressors. Read a book that you’ve been wanting to read, take a day or two off, or just find time in the day to focus on something you enjoy and encourage your team to do the same.

Take time to think about your organization’s culture, because now is the time that all of us as leaders can positively impact our employee’s loyalty and engagement. If we can be the calm in the storm, the place where they feel supported and loved…yes, I said loved…that will do more for the performance and engagement now and far into the future than anything else you can do.

Slow down, take a breath, and refocus your energy on helping others get through this time and you will be surprised at how much you get in return.

Are you ready to start driving results with a realistic and actionable plan that unleashes your full potential? It all starts with a single, intentional conversation.
