Accountability & Kicking Off 2018

accountability in 2018

This time of year, we are all thinking about how to make 2018 better than any year yet.  But what will it take to make it different than any other year?  Think about December of 2016, you were full of hope and drive to make 2017 better, you rang in the new year and hopefully set some strong goals.  Stats show that 41% of Americans make a New Year’s Resolution and of those that make a resolution (ie, goal), 42% of them never achieve that goal.

What could we all do to make this year different than all of the other years?  The answer is accountability.  You set the goal for the year, but do you set weekly, monthly, quarterly goals to get you there?  And if you do, who do you report the results to?   Who do you have to report to and say, “I didn’t hit my goals this quarter”.  While it is tough to do, the most important question you need to ask yourself next is, “what happened and what will I do to change it for next quarter?”.  This is the real key to successful goal setting, you have to be able to live in the present but be crystal clear about your goals and expectations – set hard hitting goals, but don’t make them so far out there that you can NEVER accomplish them.   And, find someone to hold you accountable to what you said you wanted to do.

Accountability, everyone needs to have a partner in their personal and professional life that can hold them accountable.  If you are focused on growing your business, be part of a group that is going to push you to do that.  If you are focused on a personal goal, find that person you trust, that will truly hold you accountable. Make 2018 the year you invest in yourself, find an accountability partner, even if they live across the country or somewhere else in the world.  A group of people who you trust in sharing your struggles and can bounce ideas off of, the people that will give you the boost you need to make sure you hit your goals.
